Card Photography

Over the past week, I have been trying to get to a point where I feel like my card photos look professional. I have been using a new lightbox I got last week on Amazon to do this and it’s made my life so much easier! The box comes with 4 backgrounds, white, black, orange and grey. It has super bright LED strip lights in that reflect around the box to help create a clean image without the need for a flash.

At first I thought the orange would be a good direction to go in as it matches my branding. However, after taking a quite few photos and doing some editing I felt like the card and confetti were getting lost.

So after giving up on the orange background, I decided that white is the way to go. The photos were looking a bit flat at first when taken from above. I also started to think about whether I wanted all the confetti behind because it was starting to look too busy. Plus always having confetti in a card photo means I need to ensure every card has matching confetti made straight away… this isn’t always practical as I tend not to make the matching confetti until it has been requested by someone.

So for my final attempt, I took the pictures with the cards raised slight by placing them on my lens cap and then moving the lights to come from one side to create more of a 3D effect, add in more of a shadow and create more depth in the picture. I quite liked the clean look without loads of confetti for the main card picture so have decided to keep this style but then add in a little doodle instead onto the picture after editing. This means I can show what the confetti will look like once it’s made and I’m not commiting to cutting some straight away. Plus I like the doodle as it matches my style of design.

Then to get a good confetti upgrade photo I thought it looked better showing how it would look coming out the card instead of a pile of confetti which I used on previous designs.

So what do you think of my final designs for my product photos? Any comments good or bad are welcome!
